Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY

"DAWN" ANTI-SHRINK, ANTI-MATTING SOCK YARN

or

"DAWN" SOCK & SWEATER YARN

1 oz. Scarlet

and

"STAR" PEARL COTTON, Article 90, size 5

1 ball Lt. Emerald

1 pr. knitting needles No. 2.

Steel crochet hook No. 7.

With Scarlet cast on 32 sts and work in garter st (K each row) for 74 rows, bind off. Sew 2 short ends together, gather one end tightly for top of apple, insert ball of cord and draw elastic or yarn through opposite end and fasten, leaving an opening for end of cord.

LEAF: Starting at lower edge with Green ch 4, s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each of the next 2 sts of ch, ch 1 to turn all rows.

2nd Row. 1 s c in each s c. Repeat the 2nd row once.

4th Row. Working in s c, increase 1 st at beginning and end of row.

5th Row. Work even. Repeat last 2 rows 4 times (13 s c in last row).

14th Row. Decrease 1 st at beginning and end of row.

15th Row. Work even. Repeat last 2 rows 4 times (3 s c in last row).

24th Row. Insert hook in 1st s c, pull loop through, * insert hook in next s c, pull loop through, repeat from * once, thread over hook and pull through all loops at one time, cut thread.

Attach Green at lower edge and work a row of s c around entire leaf. Work another leaf in same manner. With Scarlet cover a bone ring with s c and sew with leaves to top of apple as illustrated.
